Six short months ago, our family became a family of three instead of just two.
Six short months ago, we welcomed a 7 pound, 11.5 ounce, 19 inch boy into our home.
Six short months ago, we talked about how good he was, how little he cried and how much our lives were going to change.
Six short months ago, we fell in love with Jaxon Rex and our lives haven't been the same since.
Today, we are living our changed lives and finding more enjoyment in it than we imagined possible.
Today, we love spending all the time we can as a family of three; it's so much better than just us two!
Today, we have a 18.9 pound, 26 inch boy running our household.
Today, we talked about how good he is, how he only cries when he's hungry, tired or hurt, and how much our lives have changed for the better.
Today, we love Jaxon Rex more than we did the day he was born, and will continue to love him more with each day that passes.

Saturday night, Randy and I had an early Valentine's Day date at the Pine Lodge (our tradition since we moved to Elko). Even though we were supposed to be enjoying some time alone (We definitely did that, too, but lets be honest...we get alone time daily because Jax is such a good sleeper so it's not all that necessary at this point.), a friend of mine had just had her baby, and we couldn't help looking back on the day Jax was born and how much has changed since.
We reminisced about how wonderful he was then, how he's grown and how much joy he's brought to our lives. He was so perfect, with his cute little face and toes, a mohawk (just like Dad) and was so calm and easy going. To this day, he's not much of a crier; he only cried to let us know he needed something then, and he's the same way now. He was soo tiny when he was born, and it's hard to believe that now. He's such a little chubster! (And a cute one at that!) It's amazing that we could hold his head in our hand and rest his body on our forearm when he was first born. If we did that now, well...it just isn't possible! He was so peaceful and mellow, but we knew a boy was definitely going to emerge from him someday and enjoyed the peace while we could. Now, sounds of jabbering and growling fill our house. (See the video below.) He likes to bang on things (what baby doesn't?), and he is so curious. He constantly checks out the world around him. I'm fairly certain he has our house memorized from the ceiling to the cracks in the floor. He has always been such a laid back boy; even getting the PKU test done (blood drawn from his foot), he just wiggled...didn't even cry. And date nights where he tags along...they don't feel any different than if he wasn't there. He does so well wherever we take him. He's a great eater, such a happy boy, has such a funny personality and is such a sweetheart.
I think we just realized that he's no longer an infant; he's a baby now. He's starting to look and act like a little boy. He laughs when we play peek-a-boo, or even when we just make funny noises. He now has his two bottom front teeth and is sitting like a champ. He growls, sometimes for fun, and sometimes when he doesn't like something (like getting dressed). He'd hang out in his diaper all day if he could. He's almost always happy, but is getting more opinionated, and occassionally has a bit of a temper. He definitely has a full range of emotions that we can see now. He loves to give hugs and they are some of the best hugs in the world. He's also gotten very grabby; hair, neck skin, cheeks...you have to watch out. ;) His favorite toys are his tool bench, his bouncer, his caterpillar, Scout and his teething pacifier, but he tries to chew on ev-ery-thing. He's starting to dance when he hears a song he likes, and he sure loves music (he smiles when it comes on). He still has not stopped wiggling (he's been that way since day 1), so I'm sure we'll have our hands full once he starts walking. But, sometimes, if you're lucky, he'll lay there and cuddle with you for a few minutes. He's just an amazing little boy with a sweet and fun personality. He has filled our hearts more than we ever thought possible and both of us feel so incredibly blessed to have him in our lives. And as much as we miss our brand new baby, it has been so wonderful watching him grow and change. Still, it doesn't hurt to reminisce sometimes; this time passes all too fast and blogging will hopefully help us hang onto some of these memories.
(Our precious boy, just a little over a month old.)
(Our 6 month old growling little monster. Haha.)
(He laughs at the silliest things, but that laugh is one of our favorite things in the world.)
(And he just jabbers on about anything and everything. Very seriously, too, of course.)
(And here's his 6 month photo.)
I don't think most of you know, but since Jax was about 2 months old he has had a flat spot on the back right side of his head. From what I've read about it, it's pretty common in babies that are good sleepers. I can see how 12 hours straight of laying on your back when your skull is still soft could cause a flat spot. His pediatrician has given us tips on helping reshape his head (such as making sure he turns his head to the left while he's sleeping and playing), but it hasn't improved enough for us to not do something about it. While it is completely cosmetic, and won't hurt him at all, we've decided to take him to Salt Lake City to get a helmet. I don't know many details yet, but from what I understand he will have to wear this helmet 23 hours a day anywhere from 6 weeks - 6 months. And there's only a short time frame we can get this done in (by the time he is a year old). It seriously breaks my heart, and I am dreading the stares I'm sure we will get in public. BUT, I am so thankful there is a fix for this and that he won't have to live his whole life like this. I'm also so grateful that it's only temporary and that he'll be so young that it won't really affect him. So, we go to SLC on March 7th to have him evaluated. I will blog after that appointment to let you know the status of things.
Other than that, his doctor appointment today went really well. He's in the 45th percentile for his height, 65th for his weight and 85th for his head. LOL. Poor kid has a big head...apparently it runs in my family? :) He's also right on time for all of his milestones and maybe even a little ahead on some. I'm going to start making my own baby food, too. It just seems silly not to when it's so simple, and I'm home all of the time. Plus, it seems like it'll make the transition to eating what we eat simpler because he won't have to adjust to new flavors.
Well, I hope this finds everyone doing very well. Take care.
